What is SaaS (Software as a Service)?

Definition

SaaS delivers software through a cloud-based subscription model without requiring installations or local maintenance. PIM solutions offered as SaaS enable scalability, continuous updates, and remote accessibility. This model reduces IT overhead and speeds up deployment.

SaaS describes service delivery; responsibilities for data and configuration still need agreement. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take a product-processing job in an authorized hosted service, run it under the organization's configured access and workflow rules, and record processing outcomes within the agreed service boundaries.
