What is Product Repository?
Definition
A product repository stores all product-related details, including metadata and assets, in a structured, centralised system. It enables consistent access for teams across the organisation. Modern PIM systems often function as advanced product repositories.
A repository should distinguish stored drafts from authoritative approved information. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take new supplier submissions and existing approved product records, retain each record's source and processing status, and prevent unapproved drafts from entering published outputs.
