What is DAM (Digital Asset Management)?

Definition

A DAM is a central repository used to store, organise, and manage rich media assets such as images, videos, PDFs, and brand materials. Within a PIM ecosystem, it ensures product assets stay linked to the right SKUs and versions. This improves content consistency and accelerates syndication to digital channels.

Assets need identifiers, rights, versions, and relationships to the correct products. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take approved fixture photographs and installation PDFs, link assets to their product and variant identifiers, and deliver only the approved versions for the destination.
