What is Data Asset (Digital Asset)?
Definition
Digital assets include all media files, images, videos, diagrams, PDFs, used to visually represent or explain products. In PIM, these assets are stored, tagged, versioned, and associated with SKUs for consistent use across channels. They enhance product storytelling and improve customer engagement.
A data asset has identifiable business value and needs appropriate ownership and controls. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take a manufacturer-approved photometric file, associate the file with the relevant lighting product and metadata, and make it discoverable for authorized channel preparation.
