What is Interoperability?
Definition
Interoperability refers to the ability of different systems to exchange and understand product information effectively. In PIM environments, it ensures smooth communication between vendors, ERPs, marketplaces, and commerce platforms. It enables unified workflows, reduces manual intervention, and enhances data accuracy.
Systems must agree on meaning as well as syntax to use each other's information. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take a product measurement exchanged between ERP and PIM, align its identifier, unit, and attribute meaning, and confirm the destination interprets the value as intended.
