What is Data Mesh?
Definition
A data mesh is a decentralised architecture where data ownership is distributed to domain teams. It promotes autonomy, scalability, and domain-level expertise. For PIM, this enables product data owners to manage and evolve attributes directly.
A mesh emphasizes domain ownership and shared interoperability, not one central team owning every record. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take product and supplier datasets owned by different teams, consume their approved data contracts for catalog preparation, and escalate quality issues to the responsible domain owner.
