What is Master Data Management (MDM)?
Definition
Master Data Management is the discipline of governing and synchronising an organisation’s critical data entities. It ensures accuracy, consistency, and standardisation across PIM, ERP, CRM, and other systems. MDM helps reduce errors, improve decision-making, and deliver unified data experiences.
MDM coordinates identity, ownership, and trusted attributes across overlapping source records. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take different system records for the same lighting product, resolve identity and apply approved survivorship rules, and maintain a governed master with source references.
