What is Autonomous Data Operations (ADO)?

Definition

Autonomous Data Operations is an operating model in which software takes responsibility for more of the work required to manage, transform, govern, and activate enterprise data. Rather than requiring people to execute every task or workflow, autonomous systems can understand an intended outcome, determine the work required, perform that work, manage routine exceptions, and involve people when judgment or approval is needed.

Autonomy concerns execution within defined boundaries, including approval and exception rules. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take a request to prepare supplier products for a channel, coordinate intake, enrichment, validation, and approval, and verify the approved delivery and escalate unresolved exceptions.
