What is Semantic Layer?
Definition
A semantic layer translates complex technical data into business-friendly terminology. It enables easier reporting, analytics, and cross-team access to product knowledge. Within PIM, it helps non-technical users navigate and interpret product datasets effectively.
A semantic layer supplies consistent business meanings over underlying data representations. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take different system fields representing rated power, resolve them through the approved shared business definition, and apply consistent quality checks across the sources.
