What is Human-in-the-Loop?
Definition
Human-in-the-loop describes an operating model in which human review, approval, or input is intentionally included within an automated or AI-driven process, particularly for decisions requiring judgment, higher confidence, or additional oversight.
Human involvement belongs at specified decisions, not necessarily at every routine step. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take a proposed correction to a safety-sensitive specification, pause the affected update and present evidence to the reviewer, and continue only after an authorized decision.
