What is Workflow Automation?

Definition

Automated processes that route product data through review, approval, enrichment, and publishing stages. In PIM, workflow automation increases operational efficiency by reducing manual steps and enforcing accountability. It ensures faster content readiness and consistent adherence to data quality standards.

Automating tasks does not necessarily include the reasoning and outcome ownership of an autonomous operation. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take a product record that passes completeness checks, trigger the configured content-review task and notify its owner, and advance the record only after the required approval.
