What is Data Lake?

Definition

A data lake is a central repository that stores large volumes of raw data in its native format. It supports analytics, transformation, and machine learning. In product ecosystems, lakes can feed PIM with supplier or transactional insights.

A lake can retain raw information; storage alone does not make its contents trusted. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take raw supplier catalog files in a governed data lake, retrieve the authorized files and validate their contents, and separate usable product records from unvalidated source material.
