What is Taxonomy?
Definition
A structured classification system that groups related products into categories and subcategories. It helps customers navigate large catalogs by presenting products logically and intuitively. A strong taxonomy improves discoverability, faceted search, and overall shopping experience.
A taxonomy organizes categories; its rules determine where records belong and what they require. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take a supplier's uncategorized lighting range, assign products to the approved category structure, and apply the relevant category-specific information requirements.
