What is Data Mapping?
Definition
Data mapping defines how fields or attributes from one system correspond to another during migration or integration. In PIM, mapping ensures supplier data matches internal attribute structures. Accurate mapping reduces errors and accelerates onboarding.
Mapping documents source-to-target meanings and the handling of missing or incompatible values. For example, an autonomous product data operation could take a supplier spreadsheet with abbreviated column names, apply approved mappings to the target product schema, and flag unmapped or incompatible fields.
